Reports of the members of professional group II (images)

For those of its members belonging to professional group II – photographers, illustrators and designers – Bild-Kunst handles statutory remuneration claims that fall within the scope of collecting societies, i.e. that individuals are unable to assert themselves.

The most financially significant of these is the private copying royalty, followed by the library royalty and the revenues from cable retransmission. The distribution is complemented by further income from less financially significant sources. The distribution plan allocates this income to a range of distribution lines, with the money generally being distributed once a year in the autumn.

To benefit from distributions, a member of PG II must submit reports to Bild-Kunst. Anyone not submitting a report will not receive a distribution. Reports can be sent for the following lines:

  • Illustrations in books
  • Fees
  • Individual images on websites and in newspapers/magazines (print)

Members of PG I have other reporting options available to them. The reporting options listed here only apply for members of PG II.

A report form will be made available for each reporting line. Again, explanations will be provided in the corresponding notice sheet. Forms and notice sheets can be found at the end of this page as a PDF to download and print out.

Reports always cover a calendar year. At present reports can be submitted for the 2018 calendar year. Note that the closing date for reports is 30 June 2019!

Please note the system for submitting reports:

Reports of illustrations in books
Distributions for illustrations in books are made on the basis of the report of your illustrations in books. There is a single report form for all types of work (photography, illustration, design).

Reports of fees
Distributions for illustrations

  •  in newspapers and magazines (print)
  •  on websites
  •  on television

are made primarily on the basis of your fee reports. You report to us the fees that you collected from various clients in the accounting year. The distribution plan allocates the fees per client category to the distribution lines. This means that we do not need any details of the media in which your works were used, or whether they were used at all. All that you need to report is the fees actually achieved. There is a single report form for all types of work (photography, illustration, design). However, the fees for photography must be recorded separately from those for other image works.

Reports of individual images
It is not necessary to report individual images in a distribution line if you are reporting fees in the same distribution line! The distribution plan recognises the following distribution lines:

  •     Photography
  •     Illustration, design, other image works (except photography)

Should you report both fees and individual images, the fee reports will take precedence. It only makes sense to submit individual image reports, therefore, if you are not reporting any fees in a distribution line, for instance because you drew a salary as a permanent employee. So save yourself the effort of reporting individual images if at the same time you are also reporting fees for the same distribution line!
The reason for this precedence rule is that if Bild-Kunst were to allow both fees and individual images to be reported in the same line, it would not be possible to filter out duplicate reports.

Just to emphasise:

  • If you report fees in the “Photography” distribution line, you can no longer report individual images in the “Photography” distribution line, either for websites or for newspapers and magazines (print).
  • If you report fees in the “Illustration, design, other image works” distribution line, you can no longer report individual images in the “Illustration, design, other image works” distribution line.
  • However, the following combinations are possible: you can report fees for the “Photography” line at the same time as individual images for “Illustration, design, other image works”. Vice versa, you can report fees for the “Illustration, design, other image works” line at the same time as individual images for “Photography”.

Please read the corresponding notice sheets for details of the reporting options.
